Film Cinema Malaysia! The another thing I love about moving into Los Angeles is the number of revival houses and single screen theatres you can still visit. I'm not talking about your multiplexes which are playing the most recent Hollywood blockbusters, I'm discussing those historic theatres that take part in the classic movies we loved watching when we were maturing. Many of these films we first watched on television or rented them on VHS from the local video stores (back when they existed), but we never have got to see them on the big screen where they belonged. But as a result of places like New Beverly Cinema, the Egyptian Theatre and Grauman's Chinese among other movie theatres, we finally get to discover their whereabouts the way they were meant to be seen.
Now I know a number of people who nowadays would prefer to curl up for the sofa watching movies at home, however these cult movies need to be seen around the big screen should you be ever in Los Angeles.
"The Rocky Horror Picture Show"
This musical comedy horror cult classic which stars Susan Sarandon and Barry Bostwick as well as the great Tim Curry as being a "sweet transvestite from Transsexual, Transylvania" may be the longest-running midnight movie of all time. "The Room" will continue to sell out midnight screenings at the Regent Theatre in Los Angeles, and you can always count on Wiseau being there to complete a Q&A session with all the fans. Audience members come dressed as their best characters, one scene has them throwing plastic spoons with the screen, they even toss footballs to one another during the movie, plus they yell out insults regarding the undeniably low quality of the film. There are so many things wrong with "The Room," nevertheless it is so much fun to watch with the audience.
"The Big Lebowski"
Joel and Ethan Coen followed up their masterpiece "Fargo" with this particular dark comedy starring Jeff Bridges as Jeff "The Dude" Lebowski. Thanks to home video, "Big Trouble in Little China" gained an enormous cult following, and audiences find it irresistible today in such a way that you wished they did back when it first came out. It's a real kick to look at this film with an audience as is also in hysterics over Kurt Russell delivering his dialogue with an unapologetic John Wayne swagger, and that we have long since accepted the fact his character of Jack Burton is more of a blowhard compared to a hero.
